Medical care at your worksite … reimagined

Our team arrives at your doorstep equipped and staffed, offering employers a convenient and cost-effective way to provide many medical services. We can provide your employees DOT and pre-employment physicals, fit-for-duty testing, sick visits and more. We can also take care of your OSHA-required hearing conservation tests at your worksite.

Lower your healthcare costs with a medical clinic in your facility

As a self-insured employer, you may be surprised to learn about a simple way to lower the ever-increasing cost of protecting your most valuable asset – the health of your workforce.

A Physicians Quality Care OCCMed Clinic located inside your facility can treat non-emergency workplace accidents, acute medical problems, and monitor and treat chronic medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

  • A suddenly ill employee? Help is down the hall.
  • Minor accident? Treated immediately.
  • Need a u shot? No additional charge.
  • Pre-employment physical? You’ll have the results before you know it.
  • We can also offer nutritional guidance, help to stop smoking and other lifestyle choices to improve the health and well-being of your workforce.

Your bottom line: An employee who misses work because of an illness affects your company’s bottom line in many ways. First, the employee may not seek medical care at all because of concern about out-of-pocket expenses, lost wages due to absence and the potential impact on future reviews. This often results in an employee who is not at his best returning to work. Productivity declines, and the risk of accident significantly increases.

If the employee, however, seeks medical attention, that appointment often takes half a day at a minimum, and again results in lost time and productivity. Our on-site clinic can typically see and treat your employee in 15 minutes or less (for minor illness and injury) and, if appropriate, return him or her to the workforce. Downtime is greatly reduced, and employee satisfaction dramatically increases.

Workers’ Comp: Our doctors and nurses understand the often-confusing and complex OSHA medical regulations and know the impact recordables can have on your bottom line. Barring a medical catastrophe, we believe it is the employer’s prerogative to choose between light duty or taking the employee completely off work.

When workers’ comp cases can be handled simply and in-house, everybody wins.

A healthier workforce: Since employees are reluctant for many reasons to take off work for minor medical problems, it stands to reason that they are even less inclined to seek preventive medical care. As a result, debilitating conditions which, when diagnosed and treated early have significantly better outcomes, are neglected or left undetected. Heart disease, diabetes and hypertension (among others) are relatively straightforward and inexpensive to deal with in the early stages, but, if left untreated, often lead to serious complications and expensive medications, surgeries and procedures.

Employees often have difficulty justifying the cost of their copay for what they consider “trivial” conditions and are concerned about the potential consequences of their absence. That’s why an on-site clinic provides immeasurable benefit to the employee. It is not unusual for our medical staff to detect undiagnosed cancers in their earliest stages, heart problems before significant damage can occur, uncontrolled and unsuspected diabetes before eye and kidney damage become untreatable, and a host of other serious conditions for which early diagnosis is essential for a good outcome.

Lower medical costs: Your employee is not the only one who benefits. By diagnosing serious problems in the early stages, patients can be treated conservatively, reducing the cost to your company by thousands of dollars. In the case of advanced cancer, heart disease or kidney damage, costs are reduced by hundreds of thousands by negating the need for lengthy hospitalizations, expensive treatments and surgeries.

Another benefit: If an accident or acute medical condition is beyond the level of care that can be safely provided on-site, but does not require emergency hospital treatment, your employee will have immediate, no-wait access to our doctors and nurses at Physicians Quality Care during our seven-day-a-week business hours. In addition, your employee’s medical records are available at both locations to ensure continuity of care.

We will create, stock and staff an on-site medical clinic to fit your company’s needs

Who will staff the clinic? Whether you need an occasional nurse to provide first aid or a fully staffed clinic, we can do it all. You decide how and when you want your clinic staffed, and we’ll make it happen.

How much space does the clinic require? Our largest fully staffed clinic has two dedicated rooms: one for the nurse to gather information, draw labs or blood and enter medical data into the patient’s records, and another with an exam table and cabinets to store medical supplies. Our smallest clinic operates out of a converted stockroom. Again, it’s up to you.

Is there a charge per patient? No! All personnel costs are based on a pre-determined hourly rate. There is never an extra charge for numbers of patients seen.

Can Physicians Quality Care do the lab work? Yes! Certain common tests, such as flu, strep, COVID and urine tests, can be performed in your clinic with the results obtained immediately. Others that require a reference lab are done at wholesale cost, saving an average of 75 percent over the same test done in a doctor’s office. You also purchase and own all inhouse lab tests, vaccines and non-reusable supplies, greatly reducing your costs.
Annual flu shots and other immunizations? Again, you own the vaccine, which is purchased at wholesale. There is no additional cost for administration.

Will I be informed if an employee is ill? Yes and no. The employee’s medical records are confidential and protected by HIPAA, so you will never receive specifc information unless the employee voluntarily releases it. However, you will receive the same information you would get if the employee is seen at an outside facility. And, if you choose to participate in an annual health fair, we will compile aggregate information about the general health of your workforce so that you can identify areas for improvement and detect trends.

Lunch and Learn

Ketchup anyone? One benefit of an onsite medical clinic from Physicians Quality Care OCCMed is the ease of implementing employee Lunch and Learn sessions. The talks are exactly what they seem.

While employees eat, they learn about topics important to your company. One study of 1,500+ companies who offer Lunch and Learn sessions showed that 96 percent of the employees found the sessions valuable. PQC OCCMed can help plan, implement and teach your Lunch and Learn sessions.

  • Topics can range from leadership training to health, such as how to lift heavy boxes or include more healthy fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Employees connect on a personal level in a casual environment, increasing teamwork and trust.
  • Personal development topics allow employees to set personal goals, avoid burnout and manage stress. When employees feel their personal growth is valued, they are more committed to their jobs.
  • Sessions are cost-effective for companies of all sizes because they require minimal resources and can be conveniently done in- house.
  • The sessions also are a great time to bring remote employees to the office.

The Big Picture

It’s important to consider the big picture when determining how spending on employee healthcare can save money in the long run. Primarily focusing on the cost of benefits produces a skewed outcome if employers don’t include the cost of low productivity and the importance of employee well-being on the long-term success of their business.

Employees who are not at work because of sickness, workers’ compensation, disability, and family and medical leave benefits are absent 978 million days a year.

U.S. employers lose an average of $575 billion in lost productivity each year because of employee poor health. In other words, for every dollar of the $950 billion employers spend on employee healthcare benefits, they lose another 61 cents of productivity to illness and injury.

Johns Hopkins University study: On-site clinics are two-to-three times more cost-effective than off-site healthcare services for self-insured companies.
