Safety First

New and young employees need extra awareness of working safely

A disproportionate number of workplace injuries occur to employees who have been on the job less than six months and those under the age of 25.

To decrease injuries, employers should …

  • Train well.
  • Teach how to recognize hazards.
  • Give the employee the authority to stop work if he or she feels unsafe.
  • Set safety expectations.
  • Emphasize you care about safety. That means doing all sorts of little things right to improve risk awareness, build trust and reinforce safe behaviors.
